Gladiator Champion

Postion

The Champion is the highest ranking of the gladiators under the same master/clan. This position affords the champion his/her own quarters separate from the other gladiators, but within the same part of the clan house (not far from, and with access to the pits and the way through which the gladiators are allowed into the arena). The champion only engages in matches with other gladiators, usually high ranking gladiators, or those brought from out of clan to fight him/her specifically. He/she may be aloof or friendly with the other gladiators, but the tenancy is for other gladiators to distance themselves from the champion a bit, given his status. The champion is allowed to sit on the sidelines during training somewhat, but when the pit master wishes him/her to participate it will be so, the whip stings his/her flesh just as readily as the lesser gladiators.

Crucix is favored to be the next champion, understandably this can cause a point of contention between the current champion and himself as the promotion of Crucix (in the arena via a match specifically to determine championship which can be initiated by the clan mistress, the pit master by permission, or Crucix by permission of the clan mistress which would be sought by the pit master) would mean either the champion being demoted back to sub-champion and losing many of the amenities he has become accustomed too, or death. The champion has been known to try to goad Crucix in a fight, and the pair are also known to have taken place in a serious scuffle that required the pit master to break up physically. Both still bear scars from the incident. Further observation of Crucix and comments the sub-champion has made among his peers seem to suggest that he may not, in fact, be interested in seizing the position of champion currently; however the believability of this is questionable. Tensions seem to have relaxed between the pair, at least for now. They have been meeting in the arena from time to time, with victories had on both sides.

Restrictions:

This position is currently not open to members who already have characters with clan master rank or higher. This position can not be held concurrently with the pit master position or any other gladiatorial rank.

Note: While it is unlikely to happen any time in the near future, there is a good chance that the champion will face either death or demotion at the hands of sub-champion Crucix. Member must be willing to accept this possibility. Again though, this is not anticipated to happen any time soon.
